2025 – The Year in Review

During this session, representatives of the MIT’s Direct and Indirect Tax Technical Committees will go through the noteworthy legislative and other developments (domestic and international) of 2025 in the field of tax (including VAT).

Dr. Sarah Cassar Torregiani

Sarah Cassar Torregiani is a lawyer who specialises in VAT.

After 13 years with one of the Big Four accountancy firms, she has practiced on a freelance basis since 2015 providing technical support and advice on local and EU VAT matters as well as practical VAT training. Sarah is the Chief Technical Officer of the Malta Institute of Taxation and a member of the Indirect Tax Committee of the Institute. She has represented the Malta Institute of Taxation on the EU Commission’s VAT Expert Group since 2014.

 

Elaine Marie Debono

Elaine is an ACCA qualified accountant with over 14 years of experience within the Tax sphere. Elaine joined one of the big-four firms as an ACCA student in 2008 and continued her career with Mazars in Malta as from 2014. Elaine assists clients with their statutory fiscal requirements within various sectors mainly the insurance, hospitality, retail, service, gaming and manufacturing industry. Elaine is presently involved in providing tax advice to both local and international on both corporate as well as personal clients.

She also lectured the Advanced taxation module to students who are sitting for their ACCA exams and the Tax Compliance Diploma organised by the Malta Institute of Taxation.
