EU Direct Tax Developments

The speaker will take the audience through the foremost direct tax proposals, resolutions, decisions and action points at the EU, providing insight on the significance of the initiatives, positions and lines of reasoning for Malta in order to create awareness and inspire contingency plans and standpoints.

 

Learning Outcomes:
  • An understanding of current direct tax initiatives being discussed and adopted in the EU and their application to and in Malta; and
  • An understanding of salient proposals, decisions and actions determined at an EU level, with particular reference to direct taxation, including, amongst others:
    • An overview of progress on the implementation of the GloBE Directive;
    • The EU’s reaction to the impasse on Pillar 1;
    • Developments to the Directive on Administrative Cooperation;
    • An understanding of the feedback on ATAD I and II; and
    • An update on outstanding Commission direct tax directive proposals.

Dr Trudy Muscat

Trudy Marie Muscat is a Senior Manager, forming part of the international corporate tax team at Deloitte. She leads a team in supporting multinationals with the sustainable application of Maltese fiscal and corporate law in conjunction with European and international developments. Trudy graduated from the University of Malta with a Doctor of Laws and went on to pursue a Masters of Laws in International Tax Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. She is the Chairperson of the Education Committee of the Malta Institute of Taxation and teaches and examines international tax law with local Institutes and the University of Malta.
