Earlier this year, the Malta Institute of Taxation launched the MIT Guide to Completing a VAT Return a 40-page guide which provides a box-by-box analysis of the standard VAT return, with reporting examples, and the MIT's views on certain aspects of reporting in the VAT Return. The guide was developed with a view to consolidating existing guidance on the VAT Return and common practices into a single point of reference, also addressing areas of inconsistent practices, so as to assist MIT Members with the completion of VAT Returns.
The Guide has now been updated to reflect clarifications obtained in connection with reporting of transactions in the context of the triangulation simplification procedure. The revised Guide includes a Table of Changes, which outlines the changes made, for ease of reference. Version 2.0 of the MIT Guide to Completing a VAT Return is available for download by MIT Members from the Members' Area of the MIT website.
The contents of the guide represent the Malta Institute of Taxation's understanding of the reporting requirements in practice and do not constitute official guidance.
