This webinar will cover the inter-play between the Malta VAT and Customs rules and will delve into, in particular, the following topics:

  • • The general VAT and Customs principles;
  • • Imports and exports and certain intra-EU supplies of goods, including cross-border e-commerce transactions;
  • • Special Customs procedures and VAT exemptions; and
  • • Determination of the relevant tax point and taxable value for VAT and import duty purposes.

Jonathan Pace

Jonathan has been active in the local financial services industry since 2014 and is currently a Manager within Deloitte Malta’s Indirect Tax service line, focusing on the provision of indirect tax advisory and compliance services to the firm’s domestic and international clients. He also has experience working overseas, having been seconded to the Luxembourg office for a period of seven months between 2016 and 2017. Having attained the ACCA qualification in 2016, Jonathan is an accountant by profession and a member of the Malta Institute of Accountants. In 2022, Jonathan also obtained the Professional Award in Taxation offered by the Malta Institute of Taxation.

Jonathan has extensive experience in VAT, spanning various industries and sectors, in particular iGaming and yachting. Currently, he also sits on the Indirect Tax Committee within the Malta Institute of Accountants and occasionally delivers specialised VAT training for various educational institutes in Malta.

Christos Charalampidis

Christos joined Deloitte Malta in 2018 and has multifaceted experience in the field of tax law derived from his involvement in legal practices, business, and accounting firms, where he was employed as a Legal Advisor and Legal Representative for respective clients in court hearings. Christos is a manager within the Indirect Tax Service line, providing indirect tax advisory (VAT, import duties and excise duties, CESOP), and VAT compliance services across various industries, with a well founded expertise on the Energy, Resources and Industrials, luxury assets (primarily aircraft and yachts) and Transportation, Hospilatility and Services (with a strong focus on major international cruise
line operators) sectors.

Christos is a licensed Attorney at Law in Greece and a member of the Athens Bar Association. He holds an LLM in European and International Tax Law (specialization in VAT and indirect taxes) from Lund University, Sweden, graduating in 2017. Christos also holds a Post Graduate Degree in Greek Tax Law from the Athens University of Economics and Business, and an LLB in Laws from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
