A message from the President of

 THE MALTA INSTITUTE

OF TAXATION

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Malta Institute of Taxation (MIT).

Since its establishment in 1995, the MIT has strived to establish itself as a professional body for advisers, practitioners and academics operating in the field of taxation in Malta. The Institute has always had, as its declared objective, the promotion of the highest standards in the tax profession, which it endeavours to achieve through the creation of opportunities for learning and ongoing professional education. Over the years, the Institute has successfully contributed toward education in taxation and the development of local tax policy, legislation and administrative practices. The MIT maintains a good level of dialogue with the local tax authorities, policy makers and other institutes and associations of professionals.

The MIT, through its committees, endeavours to generate tax resources for the benefit of and use by its members, in the form of papers and reports, which can be accessed by members via the Members Area of this website. In addition, the MIT Member tax bulletin – MiTax– houses articles on topical tax issues and reviews on legislative developments and judicial pronouncements, both local and foreign, as relevant to our members. In addition, news items in the area of taxation and updates of interest to tax practitioners, academics and interested students are posted to the News section of this website and are accessible by all, members and non-members alike.

We invite you to frequently visit the MIT website. This is one of the ways in which you may keep yourself updated on developments in this fast moving area of the law. The MIT website will also enable you to connect more directly with the institute, allowing you to more fully enjoy the benefits associated with your membership, to network with other members and to follow the work of the CFE – Tax Advisers Europe, an association of European tax advisers, founded in 1959, which brings together members from 30 national organisations, including the Malta Institute of Taxation, from 24 European countries, representing more than 200,000 tax advisers.
