The Award in VAT Compliance [MQF Level 5] is a higher education course accredited by MFHEA. It is comprised of 6 Lectures. Participants have the option to follow the full programme or any one or more lectures [Lectures 3 and 4 and Lectures 5 and 6 have to be taken as a set]
*The VAT Return lectures will be based on the MIT Guide to Complete a VAT Return. Both lectures will be held in-person.
The lectures forming part of the Award in VAT Compliance are not eligible for the Membership Offer.
Jonathan has over 10 years of combined experience in audit and taxation and is currently a Senior Manager within Deloitte Malta’s Indirect Tax service line, focusing on the provision of indirect tax advisory and compliance services. He also has experience working overseas, having been seconded to the Luxembourg office for a period of seven months between 2016 and 2017.
Having attained the ACCA qualification in 2016, Jonathan is an accountant by profession and a member of the Malta Institute of Accountants. In 2022, he also obtained the Professional Award in Taxation offered by the Malta Institute of Taxation.
Jonathan has extensive experience in VAT, spanning various industries and sectors, in particular iGaming and yachting. Currently, he also forms part of the Indirect Tax committee within the Malta Institute of Accountants and occasionally delivers specialised VAT training for various educational institutes in Malta.
Vanessa Micallef is a Senior Manager within Deloitte Malta’s Tax team and has been with the firm since 2006, following her graduation with Honours in Accountancy from the University of Malta. In 2008, she further advanced her professional qualifications by obtaining a Diploma in Taxation from the Malta Institute of Taxation.
Throughout her career, Vanessa has played a key role in advising both local and multinational groups, contributing her expertise to a diverse range of direct and indirect tax projects. Since 2011, she has specialised in VAT, focusing on delivering strategic indirect tax advice and assisting clients with VAT compliance for entities operating in Malta. Vanessa is also actively involved in due diligence and M&A transactions, where she manages the indirect tax component of engagements, helping clients to navigate through the complex regulatory environments.
Her experience spans key industries such as financial services, real estate, and gambling and betting. Vanessa is a member of the Indirect Tax Committee within the Malta Institute of Taxation and regularly delivers specialised VAT training for professionals and educational institutions. Most recently, Vanessa was appointed as an alternate member of the EU Commission VAT Expert Group.
