Omnibus Directive and DAC Recast proposals
Today, 24 June 2026, the European Commission adopted a tax simplification package comprising two legislative proposals:
- the direct taxation Omnibus and
- the Recast of the Directive on Administrative Cooperation (DAC)
The declared objectives of these initiatives are to streamline EU tax rules, reduce compliance costs for businesses, and enhance the competitiveness of the Internal Market. They seek to modernise and improve the efficiency of the EU’s direct tax framework, ensuring it remains fit for today’s economic environment while maintaining robust safeguards against tax fraud, tax avoidance, and tax evasion.
The proposals will now be submitted to the European Parliament for consultation and Council for adoption.
